From a Balcony of Exclusion to a Beacon of Belonging

Wide landscape shot of the historic theater balcony and stage.

Our Mission

A Beacon of Belonging

We are restoring the historic balcony of the 1948 Milford Schine Theatre to transform it into a safe, accessible sanctuary for worship and community programs. From a space of exclusion to a beacon of belonging, our mission is to honor the past while building a future of hope and unity for all.

A Legacy of Belonging

1948

The Schine Theatre opened its doors in 1948, a landmark in Milford. For decades, the balcony was a designated space for Black patrons, a practice that reflected the segregated social norms of the time.

1960s - 1980s

As the nation moved toward integration, the balcony remained a symbol of exclusion. Despite the changing times, the physical structure of the balcony remained a silent witness to the era of segregation.

Present Day

We are now restoring the balcony to its original glory. Our mission is to transform this space from a symbol of exclusion into a beacon of belonging for all Milford residents.

Worship & Fellowship

We will restore the balcony as a sanctuary for spiritual growth and community fellowship, providing a dignified space for our congregation to gather and worship together.
